The Swiss painter Jürg Schmutz, whose talent has largely crossed the helvetic borders, is a gifted watercolorist, although this technique, according to him, is “disparaged and old-fashioned”. It is however the one he is practising and imposing, crowned with many international rewards. The lasted one obtained was in Lyon in February 2006 : Prix de prestige at the International Show of Contemporary Creators.

With a great sensibility, he gives to his works, inspired from his various escapades in Bretagne, Venice, Padova, in the Pyrénées or places in the neighbourhood, atmospheres full of fineness and smoothness, where the light irradiates from the inside and takes the color of the freshness of a river or a watery area. With a great mastership, using all the shades and tints essentially of the blues, light and diffuse, sometimes bright, combined to the iridescent whiteness of the dancing and twinkling water, or the subtle and luminous greens melting artfully in the fore- and background of the painting, he plunges immediately the gaze of the spectator in the poetry of his world.

With an evanescent subject, a stretch of water, a piece of wall, the shape of a palace, the outline of a city, hardly perceptible at the first glance, the artist succeeds in the realization of captivating works, trying to escape the lines but in suggesting them, resulting from a long experience. His work progresses slowly, each stoke having its own value and dimension, the numerous superimpositions creating a “surface depth”, and giving life to the painting. His work inscribes itself in the line of the great tradition of the painting, like Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne…
Thanks to his talent, Jürg Schmutz will be invited in Seoul in Corea in 2007. This is for sure the promise of future successes !
